Adventures in Imperfection

Oh Look! Shiny Objects

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

You know how it is when you open too many web browsers? The processor runs at a snail’s pace, the pages won’t load and your mood exponentially drains like the battery life of your iPhone.

That’s my brain these days. Full of so many things I want to do and no time in the day to it.

Autumn is awesome and my Pinterest boards are full of decorating ideas to create some sort of illusion that a woman with good taste (or a glue gun) lives here. As soon as I found the perfect burlap wreath, I found another pin for date-night smoky eyes and then ran across a yummy recipe for individual pot pies.

When was the last time I got groceries? Damn. Where’s the list? Maybe I can get some stuff after the K-State game. Go Wildcats! Is that more dog hair under the couch? Lemme go get the vacuum cleaner. Whoa, when did this closet get so messy? Okay. First, I’ll tidy up these shelves.

There’s the camera. Dang! I need to download the football pictures and post them to Facebook so the other parents have access to them. Shoot! The light wasn’t very good.  I’ll touch them up with Photoshop first.

Yep! That’s my kiddo dragging the defense!

Let’s go Royals! Game 4 against the Giants. I hope Hosmer is hitting again tonight. Please, PLEASE no meatballs Vargas. Never mind. He walked the first batter.

Wade Davis is filthy. Check this video out from last night.

“Wader! Check please!”

Meanwhile, the computer is open, the phone is dead, the vacuum cleaner is in the middle of the floor and I STILL need burlap and Bisquick to finish the Pinterest projects.

I promise that I’m doing fine. Too much work travel and no chance to write. Did I mention that I got my knee scoped yesterday? I’ve missed many of your posts and don’t see getting caught any time soon. Forgive me?

Sure you do. Cuz you’re my friends and if you’re anything like me…

Oh look!

And, since I plan to be away for a little longer, some gratuitously cute puppy photos to keep you busy. xo

All images (except the football picture) are from my Pinterest pages. Feel free to follow me @mickterry and join the ADD party already in progress.

  1. Pinterest is my new favorite “zone out” site. I completely get you on all of this, open too many tabs and not feel accomplished until I have gone through each one. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I SO thought of you when I wrote this! Not cuz you’re scattered like me, but that I could imagine your joy in finding all of the different things that there are to find ๐Ÿ™‚
*wanders off to find Punky on Pinterest…

  2. “Hey, I know a joke! A squirrel walks up to a tree and says, “I forgot to store acorns for the winter and now I am dead.” Ha! It is funny because the squirrel gets dead. ”

    SQUIRREL! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Oh my goodness, B! Ive had the same problem for almost 2 weeks! I finally just forced this one out knowing/accepting that it wouldn’t be Pulizter or Press-worthy. It felt good to just get something down…even if it was nonsense.
You can do it, my friend. I’ll read it ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Ha ha. You totally just described my September and October. Hang in there. Fall is busy, busy with all the fun sports, holidays and getting rid of all the leaves in the yard. Winter will soon be upon us with all its dullness and cold…and we’ll miss this crazy, distracted, busy time of year (but maybe we’ll get something done in the house finally).

    1. Hi Char!
So great to hear from you. Are you back to riding regularly? Still working on your book(s)? See…i can’t even keep my line of questioning focused ๐Ÿ™‚
Here’s to a happy, hectic season before we are buried in snow. Xo

      1. Yes, I’ve done several rides (one a long one for about 3 hours). I love it, but find that I’m a little more cautious than I was before. My confidence is slowly returning though. And yes, I’m madly scrambling to try to get my last book out by next month (or December at the latest)…and all the books will be available in paperback then because my daughter is redoing the covers. They’re looking so awesome. I’m wanting to squeal with excitement. Snow won’t even bring me down (ha ha).

      2. How cool to be working on a project with your daughter. I can’t wait! Congrats, dear Char! I admire your ability to stick to it! I’m trying out NaNoWriMo next month…we’ll see how it goes.

  4. The world would be a much less awesome place without your crazy… I mean distracted brain! !

I needed a laugh tonight and I found it here…. thanks friend!

Oh and way to go football son!!

Plus…did I read correctly on another blog ‘ s comment section that you wrote a book??!!

    1. Hey Mama!
Love seeing you here! Would you believe that your cute chocolate chip cookie post imspired to sit down and write already?
I’m glad this made you laugh…i was certainly feeling silly when I wrote it.
No book here….not yet! I’ll be writing my first one in November during NaNoWriMo. I may need you to send me sugar ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. As long as you’re baking….feel like throwing something pumpkin into the mix?!?!

Yep! 50,000 words is the goal by midnight November 30. If you want some information, drop me a note and I’ll send you the website!!

  5. Here I am, so what’s goin’ on? I too am easily distracted. But you see Mama you are a special case. Apparently, at one point while stumbling around in my WordPress account, i accidently pressed a button that causes every comment made on your blog, and your blog only, to show up immediately in my e-mail whether I have commented myslef or indicated that i want to see the comments. That means that,as popular as your posts are, as soon as you post, i get a flood of notifications interspersing all my other e-mail. So my e-mail says “Oh Look! Shiny Objects”, “Oh Look! Shiny Objects”, “Oh Look! Shiny Objects”, “Oh Look! Shiny Objects”, etc. Ha! gets my attention, even as wandering as my mind is. I can offer it as a tried and true method to solve distraction.

Ha! Funny post Mama. The pictures were great -i love the “I’m not sure who dug up the garden..,” dog pic. Too funny.

    1. Oh my goodness…Poor Paul! To be inundated by ME!
Once I quit giggling, I went into problem solving mode. I think if you go into your Reader under “Blogs I follow” you can select Preferences by clicking on my site. I have a feeling you must have “e-mail all comments” selected. You can stop the madness with a single click!!
Thank you for stopping by…I always love hearing from you.

  6. I need to shower and get myself and the kids ready for church, but there’s no puppies in the shower (thank goodness?). The first thing I did this morning was click a link in Pinterest to find instructions how to carve an impossibly cute pumpkin, which I never found though 10 minutes later I found myself on etsy looking at a $300 tutu. Wth? I have to limit my time online for all the rabbit holes. Tumble tumble, down I go. Some I’ll keep because they make me think and grow and be happy. That’s why I’m here ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Ha! Your internal process is very familiar:0)) Didn’t know you’re from Kentucky – I’m from Louisville originally, but have been away since age 25 (=really long time). Have a great day full of fun, shiny distractions!

    1. I about fell over when I saw my husband sign up for Pinterest. He did it so he could see different designs for cars and rat rods. He was fine until I started filling it up with puppy pictures. I don’t think he’s looked at it since ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Puppies!! Oh, what? Did you write about stuff? But seriously, I can totally relate. My to-do list is so long that it will never be finished. So, I pretty much concentrate on making sure laundry is done, the kitchen gets cleaned up, and there is food in the house. Everything else is second.

    1. Great minds think alike, right? I’m right there with you on the laundry and kitchen and food. It’s 11:19 and finally…I have all three almost caught up!
Thanks for stopping by, my friend!

  9. We ARE sisters from another mister!
My brain scatters in so many direction, I can’t start one task without it leading to 70 others.
Fold the laundry, oh the whole closet needs organizing, this stuff was for the garage sale, oh! let’s organize the garage, where was that article about organizing, Ooh! Look! the best anti agers on the market, Oh! The supermarket list! What was that I needed? I’m hungry. Better make some lunch. This refrigerator is a disaster, OH WHAT A GREAT IDEA FOR A BLOG POST – don’t bother me, I’m writing! But first, let me see what’s happening on Facebook…

    1. SQUEEEEAALL! It’s Samara!!

I completely lost it when I read the part about “Oh what a great idea for a blog post–don’t bother me, I’m writing.”

ALL morning I’ve been trying to get back to my computer to write a post for the daily prompt. BUT, ugh….groceries and laundry first? I married such a responsible man…he’s trying to keep me on track this morning and I just wanna play with my blogger buddies.
I always love hearing from you…I think I have a post waiting in my inbox from you.
      But first…lunch!

  10. I read this yesterday, but got distracted with other things so didn’t get back to comment until today.

Life is so darn **shiny** isn’t it?

(And, good luck to your Royals. I don’t follow baseball as much as I used to, but when they tromped all over my daughter’s Orioles, at least I could think “… but my blogging friend is happy …”)

    1. LOL!! Oh Cindi–you’re a hoot!
Sorry about those Orioles…we just received a similar butt-whooping from the Giants last night.
Hope you are doing well…I’ll be back over to visit soon and get caught up.

      1. Heheheh – now I’m honoured AND distracted (clearly) because I can’t remember which post it was! Sounds like it was probably one of my randomly rambly no-good-reason-for-this stream-of-consciousness posts. BUT I found you on Pintrest, so there’s that ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. Oh Sandy!! We really are in this together, right?!? I wanna be like you when i grow up!
I have a post from you sitting in my inbox that I’m saving for tomorrow which hints to be a quieter day.
Can’t you and i just run off for an afternoon?!? Maybe Pinterest has some ideas for a bloggy date…

    1. And I LOVE you!
Confession…I’ve been stalking your page and hoarding your posts for a rainy day. I love how helpful you’ve been with tackling social media and I’m so ready to sit down with your Mabel book. Soon, I promise. xo

  11. Well, I’m a few days late. My problem isn’t so much distraction as a houseful of sickies. Somehow, all four of us managed to get sick one at at time with me getting to be last. I’ve nursed everyone back to health, now I need to drown in a couple bottles of Nyquil. I love how your rambling mind works. SQUIRREL!

    1. Oh dang! I’m so sorry that you guys are sick. Our sickest time was Tanna’s kindergarten year and then again when Dane went. Cash is probably right there in the mix, right?
Fortunately, those kiddos have all traded germs enough that most of them should be paying rent in my house.
Feel better and thank you so much for taking the time from a head cold to stop and comment. I’ve been thinking about you much and keep meaning to send you an e-mail…but, the danged SQUIRRELS!

  12. Had a good giggle with this post, followed by falling in love with puppies. What could make for a better Tuesday, I ask you?? Not much, Michelle.

    With heart,

P.S. Hang in there. And “scoped”?? Is that good or bad??

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hi Dani,
Glad for the giggles and so happy that it helped with a Tuesday!
Scoped is good! It was a short surgery followed by just a couple of days of recovery. No meds or crutches required. Woo! Hoo!
I hope you are having a great week!

  13. LOL You had me at the opening. I don’t pinterest but

“to create some sort of illusion that a woman with good taste (or a glue gun) lives here”

    LOL and “Where’s the list? Where’s the —-? !@#$%^!”
    ‘S me!!

Don’t beat yourself up too much. You get points for being fun.

  14. You’re a woman of many talents. Not the least of which is knowing your baseball. Hell of a team you have going there. Madison B got in the way, but there’s no shame in that, seeing as how his arm was attached to 100 plus years worth of history. Hope the team can keep Billy (Butler) Bats. Yeah, I refer to the Royals in Goodfellas terms. Highest form of praise . . believe me.

    1. Hey Cayman!
Thank you for your kind words and for going along on this ride with me. You’re right…no shame anywhere in this season. Thanks for being such an awesome friend and taking the time to come back and comment. Hoping you have something over on your blog? You know I love reading your stuff! xo

      1. As much as we cursed “double play” Billy all year, I’d hate to lose him. James Shields is a free agent, too. I almost get choked up when I think about this team breaking up. They certainly gave me a lot to write about this year…I just posted my last *sniff* tribute to them yesterday Tell your sweetie there’s a picture of Maddy Bum on there ๐Ÿ˜‰
Have a great weekend, Cayman! Loved sharing this baseball season with you!

  15. Shiny objects!!!! Oh wait, sorry, I got distracted by your post title! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Funny enough my husband was just telling me I have distractionisitis because apparently I walked away in the middle of a conversation to look at a couple of chipmunks scampering around a tree branch I saw out the window. Squirrels, chipmunks, they’re all the same!

      1. There’s lots of s’s and c’s and stuff in distractionitutis. What? One can never have too many where muchness is involved.
(OMG…dude…been up since 5 participating in this NaNoWriMo stuff and I’m buzzing on caffeine).

    1. BAHAHA! You should have seen the text messages Christy sent me after she read this post. I was mid-sentence with the hubs, stopped and wandered off laughing.
She sent me a picture of squirrels…of course ๐Ÿ˜‰
